About the Boxer Dog Breed:

The Boxer combines the exceptional hunting, herding and protection instincts of the Mastiff with the Boxers' courage, tenacity and exuberant personality. Originally from Germany, these popular family dogs were imported to North America after World War 1, and can now be found in homes all over the world. Boxers are sturdy, medium-sized dogs that stand 25 inches or less at the shoulder. They have a short, tight-fitting coat that can be fawn or brindle with white markings and is easily groomed - a weekly rub-down and brushing does the trick nicely. The Boxer makes an exceptional family pet. They are intelligent, fun, loyal and they are very patient with children. Early obedience training is recommended to help your Boxer puppy reach it's full potential as a cherished family member. Boxers require plenty of daily outdoor exercise. They can adapt to apartment living provided that adequate exercise is provided.

Boxer Dog Breed History:

The Boxer was developed in Munich, Germany, toward the end of the 19th century. Aiming to produce a medium-sized security dog, breeders combined the Boxer with the mastiff-type Bullenbeisser. The breed was first registered in Germany in 1904 but attracted little notice until the end of World War I when returning soldiers brought several of the handsome dogs back to this continent.

Boxer Dog Breed Description:

Boxer dogs are medium-sized, squarely and solidly built with a short back, strong limbs, and a short, tight-fitting coat. Their muzzles are broad, blunt and feature an expression of alertness. They enjoy and need daily exercise, so a fenced yard to roam in is helpful. If walked daily, they can do well in a city environment. Boxers are considered "people dogs" as they adapt well to other dogs and children. The breed is a very gentle, loving and makes for a good family companion. Some of the Boxer's talents are guarding, police work, military work, search & rescue, competitive obedience, and performing tricks.

The character of the Boxer is of utmost importance. The dog should be alert and fearless, willing to make friends but not effusive. He is fundamentally playful with family and friends, yet patient with children. His intelligence and loyal affection make him a fine companion.

Boxer Dog Breed Exercise Requirements:

A spirited pet, often with a sense of humor, the Boxer enjoys a good romp, but when necessary, he can display constrained animation. Regular outdoor exercise should be part of his daily regime.

Boxer Dog Breed Grooming Requirements:
